The Gym Adventure

By Henry

Yesterday was a LOT of work.
But fun work. A.K.A Gym sessions with the homeschool group here! It was fun, tiring, and extremely cool at the same time. Rewind: In the morning we had to leave early because the fitness center was a one and a half hour drive from our house. When we (finally) got there, we loaded water bottles and sack lunches and headed inside. YES! It was indoors!! Switching briefly to picture technique:

The sign that greeted us bold-faced-lettered-style at the entrance.
The thought that ran through my head: (reference to Star Wars)
"That's no gym... That's a torture chamber!!"

The above thought was wrong. This place was AWESOME! The coaches here were nice, the activities were really cool (kickboxing, wrestling, and track), and the facility was modern too!
The first activity was kickboxing. What didn't make sense to me was that you used your fists as your main attack. This part may have been my favorite because I could use it on rebellious siblings!! Only kidding! :D In kickboxing, we learned how to throw punches, and learned two leg kicks. It was a full hour class and we worked Hard.

The next part was wrestling. I had already dabbled in this sport, and had deemed myself "really bad". What was surprising is that I didn't do "really really bad"! Here are pictures:

A wrestling version of "Sharks n' Minnows" where you crawl instead of run and people slam you to the floor instead of tagging you. Ouch. It was another hour of hard work.

The last part was track. We learned key parts of sprinting, e.g. footwork, stance, and ran sprinting and baton relay races. Our track team (there were three) never placed first, but always placed second by a little bit. After an hour of running races, Mom picked us up, and we drove home. The rest is (boring) history until we work up this morning really really sore. As Greta said, "Now I know how a grandma feels!"

  1. Hey...we are Titans! The kids will think that's cool! I'm sure they feel their school is a torture chamber as you felt the gym would be ;)
