Snoopy Island: Our In-Country Vacay
Most of the people you meet in America and indeed, many Americans you meet here in the Emirates, will have some knowledge of the famous cartoon Peanuts. Charlie Brown and the gang have been well established in American pop culture, but I never thought that they would make such a stand here as to get a whole island named after one of the characters.
See the outline of Snoopy? Perhaps it looks like he ate a bit too much for dinner, but with a little imagination, it's easy to find it. Though admittedly, it took me a while. :)
In the water around the island, under the waves of the salty Indian ocean, you'll find a simply gorgeous coral reef. Unfortunately, we didn't bring a waterproof camera, so I don't have any pictures to show ya'll. But here is a YouTube video someone took.
It's about a two hundred yard swim out to Snoopy Island, so it's not that bad, except battling the waves. It's good though, that you don't have to wait until you get to the island to see the reef, because it actually starts about midway to the island. Additionally, if you aren't feeling like going the distance, especially anyone with little ones eager to see the fishes, there is a small branch of the reef right next to the beach, and schools of fish, casts of crabs, and a few different kinds of coral can be found within easy swim's reach.
I think I must have seen at least fifteen to twenty different kinds of fish around the reef at Snoopy Isle, and every single one was so brightly colored they were almost bioluminescent in broad daylight according to Ben. As Henry very appropriately put it; "God designed the ocean in Technicolor." We saw everything from Parrotfish to Nemo (Clownfish), Pufferfish to a Reef Shark, Brain Coral to Anemones.
In a word, it. Was. Spectacular. Definitely something I'd do again.
Enter Snoopy. This little dog is undeniably one of my favorites among the Peanuts Gang, and I was so excited and curious to see why on earth a whole island might be named after him.

Yowzah!!! Awesome!! That's so cool! Hope you all had a great time there! Was it pretty hard swimming to the island? With all the waves? Or? Did you all swim it?
